The History of Patient Source

PatientSource was founded in 2012 by Dr Michael Brooks and Dr Philip Ashworth.

Mike is a still practising emergency care doctor and Phil is a PhD Physicist specialising in medical imaging devices, both coming from the Cambridge University stable.

The original vision and drive were conceived through frustration with the expensive, difficult to use and subpar digital solutions in the market, which fostered reliance on paper.

‘Bootstrapping’ the company for several years, an injection of Cambridge Angel investment monies gave the opportunity to deliver a 9-month pilot into the James Paget Ambulatory service. The clinical and Management team were so delighted with our solution, they commissioned a 5-year contract to immediately follow!

After spending 13 years client side working in various project and IT leadership roles across Community Services, Acute, Mental Health and Commissioning, Lee Francis joined the team as the Sales, Marketing and Partnerships Director, Lee was recognised as a later stage co-founder - So enamoured with the solution and company ethics, Lee delivered 2 years sweat equity whilst building a revenue base.

Phil McSweeney, a Nurse by training who then ascended the management ranks to become a COO of a Primary Care Trust before forging a career as a Management Consultant was one of the original Angel investors. Phil served as a NED before becoming the PatientSource Executive Chair.

Our Solution

PatientSource came into existence because of a real situation where patient care was compromised. PatientSource has a commitment to improve patient care and we believe technology has the power to greatly enhance clinical practice, but only when that technology is designed by doctors and nurses themselves.

PatientSource is designed for clinicians by clinicians and we develop and deploy to enhance our system wherever possible.   We understand that everyone has different needs and we will take time to understand your needs.

Modular Based EPR

What makes PatientSource stand out from the crowd is our modular approach to creating the perfect EPR for our clients. Like customisable building blocks, PatientSource can become whatever your hospital, clinic or department needs it to be. This agility allows you to build a completely bespoke system that moulds around your current processes. It also means that you can build your own version of PatientSource as you grow, adding relevant modules when needed.
